Straw Hats, Smart Packing, and Care Tips

But even the most stylish hat deserves a little TLC. Here's how to keep your hat looking fabulous at home and on the move.

Let’s talk travel tricks: the easiest way to keep your hat in perfect shape is to avoid the suitcase entirely. Our favorite solution? A hat clip. These handy accessories attach your hat right to your carry-on, beach bag, or tote—no smushing, no stress.

If you must pack your hat:

  • Flip it upside down (crown inside the suitcase, brim up).
  • Stuff the crown with soft clothing (like socks or swimsuits).
  • Surround the brim with rolled clothes to support the shape without flattening.

Paper Straw Hats
If your Panama gets bent or creased, don’t panic. Gently steam the area using a kettle or steamy shower. While the hat is warm and soft, reshape it with your hands and let it cool in place. You can also use a towel or soft object inside the crown to hold its shape.

Summer Wide Brim Hats
These beauties are made for movement! Most wrinkles will fall out naturally. But if needed, a quick blast of low-heat steam (or even a warm hairdryer held at a distance) can help coax it back to smooth. Gently press into shape and let it cool.

  • Avoid soaking or heavy rain (especially for paper straw styles).
  • Spot clean with a soft, damp cloth and let air dry.
  • Store your hat upright or hang it on a wide hook.
  • Always handle by the brim, not the crown, to preserve structure.
